As a “Rights Respecting School” we are committed to providing a positive, safe and stimulating environment which promotes the social, physical and moral development of the individual student through British Values. Safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children is defined as:

• protecting children from maltreatment
• preventing impairment of children's health or development
• ensuring that children grow up in circumstances consistent with the provision of safe and effective care
• taking action to enable all children to have the best outcomes

We have a number of policies and procedures in place that contribute to our safeguarding commitment, including our Safeguarding Policy which can be viewed in this section of our website. Sometimes we may need to share information and work in partnership with other agencies when there are concerns about a child’s welfare.

We will ensure that our concerns about our pupils are discussed with his/her parents/carers first unless we have reason to believe that such a move would be contrary to the child’s welfare. We actively support the Government’s Prevent Agenda to counter radicalism and extremism.

Key Staff responsible for Safeguarding

While Safeguarding is the responsibility of all members of staff, we have three staff who are first points of contact for safeguarding concerns.

	Designated Safeguarding Lead – Mr Sutherland – Headteacher
	Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead – Mrs Bhudia - Deputy Headteacher
	Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead (CLA) – Mrs White – Assistant Headteacher / Inclusion Manager

All three designated teachers have completed Level 3 Safeguarding training as well as specific training in PREVENT and Safer Recruitment.

The Designated Safeguarding Person is the main contact point for any safeguarding issues within the school. The role involves keeping up to date with legislative and administrative changes in procedures; ensuring staff are trained in aspects of safeguarding including child protection protocols; liaising with external agencies such as health and social care professionals.

Grimsdyke School also has a Safeguarding Governor, Mr N Hewett who supports the school in matters of strategy, policy and accountability.

As safeguarding is the responsibility of all members of school staff a regular training programme is delivered to everyone at Grimsdyke School whether they are teaching staff, teaching assistants or admin staff. In doing this we are committing to safeguarding all students within the school and their families.
